Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Troubleshoot, operate and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
• Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required: internal combustion engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems
• Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts: perform major repairs to maintain fleet equipment using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments independently
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications
• Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work: conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services
• Service attachments and working tools: reconditioning and replacing of assorted parts of the heavy equipment
• Verify and repair emission control systems: operate and test equipment to ensure it passes Herc Rentals quality and efficiency standards
• Instruct apprentices
• Order parts and maintain inventory
• Keep maintenance reports and documentation
• Develop and maintain a consistent schedule of performing preventative maintenance of all Herc Rentals owned fleet at your branch
• Perform routine maintenance and major repairs on all Herc Rentals fleet equipment and trucks independently
• Assist shop lead with customer damage estimates and repairs
• Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs
• Enter and review work orders and complete part ordering via fleet management system
• Diagnoses problem areas for any significant wear or tear on the equipment
• Diagnose internal combustion engines, DC electrical systems, propane and systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems
• Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner
• Assist in training “C” and “B” Mechanics while taking direction from the shop lead
• Follow all company’s procedures and protocols
Requirements
Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
- Experience: Completion of a three- to five-year apprenticeship program or a combination of over four years of work experience and industry courses in heavy equipment repair is required to be eligible for trade certification.
-Welding experience is required.
- Driver’s license is required.
Major work area: Mechanical transmissions, Hydraulic transmissions, Highway vehicle tires and wheels and Truck repairs
Diesel Engine Repair Specialization: Fuel injection system, Exhaust system, Cooling system, Lubrication system, Hydraulic transmissions, Off-road vehicle tires and wheels
Mechanical Maintenance and Repair Specialization: Mechanical transmissions, Drive trains and final drives
Powered Equipment Repair Specialization: Hydraulic-operated working attachments
